The main purpose of meditating is to divert your attention from your surroundings. You truly want to focus your attention entirely on yourself and your internal processes. This makes your intentions, thoughts, and internal conversations the focal point, instead of all sorts of external factors.
Just like with anything you can learn, you can build a neural network in your brain for meditation. This makes meditating go from difficult, to better, to easy, to subconscious and automatic. Meditation is scientifically proven
A study published in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews in 2014 shows that meditating for 30 minutes every day for 8 weeks already makes a difference in our gray matter. This is because meditation stimulates neuroplasticity, the fact that we can change our brain. As a result, meditation exercises have a positive influence on, for example, our anxiety system, but also how we deal with stress. All in all, I recommend meditating for at least 10 to 20 minutes every day. This way you will get used to the process faster and you will feel good about it sooner!
